Swiss Championships 1999
The Swiss Championships in Country Western Dancing was held in Weinfelden near Lake Constanze during the weekend 3 -5th September 1999. The host was the local Club Rising Moon who did a wonderful Job. They put in a lot of effort and with a strong commitment the organisation team turned the Conference Centre Thurgauerhof into a Dance Hall of American style to give the event the right flavour for Country Western Dancing.Friday evening started with a big welcome party and the dancers and judges could meet for the first time.
This years judges were: Hub Haanen, Hermann Falkenber, Bettina Welters, Brigitte van der Heijden from Holland,
Bieke Wouters from Belgium, Judy McDonald from Canada,
Iris Funkler, Jim Ainsworth and Andreas Sallmann from Germany and
Rick and Stella Wilden from England.Saturday the tournament started with a parade where all dancers marched into the dance hall with their national flag in front of each group. Dancers from USA, Belgium, England, Germany, France, Italy and of course many Swiss entered the dance floor.
We offered for the first time Division Juniors and Division Diamond, this was a big success, then followed Newcomer and Novice which closed the morning program.
After Lunch break we continued with Intermediate and Renegade Divisions, which finished the Line Dance Competition for Saturday. Next on the program were Couple Dance, Honky Tonk Newcomer and Novice then Classic Divisions 3 and 4.
The Saturday evening program was a mixture of show dancing and surprises. Party Time with Live Music by the band Desert Rats. The Dance Hall was fully booked by enthusiastic Country fans, where there was something for each taste: dancing, gambling, small-talk or having a drink & bite.
Sunday was the day for all Swiss Championship Title's in Line, Couple and Teams. Furthermore the judges held Workshops in the disciplines, Couple, Line and Technique.
The Award Ceremonies was slightly delayed, but not much almost on time. We were proud to honour each dancer with a specially created medal for participation, and the first three positions were awarded with a placement placate.
It is with great pleasure and satisfaction we notice that the performance level has significantly improved from year to year and this years contestants has showed us excellent dancing. From our point of view all contestants are winners, because it takes a lot of hard training before you feel confident and competent to perform your best for such a large crowd. We are sure, many will remember this event with great pleasure and maybe share it again with old and new found friends.
